Sonya Davidova was born in Samara, Russia in 1985. She moved to the United States in early 1990 and has been a resident of Jersey City for over 16 years. She currently attends NJ City University and plans to graduate in May of 2007 - Summa Cum Laude - with a B. A. in Media Arts. Her work has been screened at the Landmark Loew´s Jersey Theater in Jersey City, NJ. With co-director Rick Torres, Sonya recently shot and edited a documentary short based on a performance piece by the artist Raphael Montanez Ortiz at the Jersey City Museum. Sonya is a staff member/co-curator of the URBAN IMAGE collective and a member of the Womenswork Media Collective – both based in Jersey City.
Patricia Gonzalez was born in Hoboken, NJ in 1984, and was raised in Union City, where she has lived all her life. Prior to entering NJ City University, she was a communications major at Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ. She is currently pursuing a B. A. in Media Arts and plans to graduate in December 2006. Patricia currently works for Mimosa Digital, where she restores photographs, color corrects images for consumers and professional photographers, and compiles photo montage DVD´s. Patricia worked for Gotham City Online, as a website photographer, and was a production assistant for Cablevision of New Jersey and for the Spanish television network Univision. Patricia aspires to a career in media production.
Louis Libitz was born in Jersey City, New Jersey and now resides in Syracuse, New York. He is an award-winning videomaker currently studying for his Master of Fine Arts Degree in Art Video at Syracuse University, where he received a Graduate Teaching Assistantship. His work has been screened at Anthology Film Archives and the Robert Beck Memorial Cinema in NYC; the Loew´s Jersey Theater and The Jersey City Museum in Jersey City, New Jersey; and at the Hoboken Historical Museum in Hoboken, NJ. Recently, his work has been screened at the Fine Art School of the Aristotelian University in Thessaloniki, Greece; at the 7th Biennial of Video and New Media of Santiago, Contemporary Museum of Art, Santiago, Chile; and at the York Arts Gallery in York, PA. He received an Honorable Mention at the 24th Annual Black Maria Film/Video Festival. Louis designs and creates DVD´s for other artists/filmmakers, and is highly sought after as a video and audio post-production engineer. Upon graduation from New Jersey City University, he was awarded the prestigious Dr. Joseph Drew Award for Excellence in Production. He taught as an adjunct professor of video production in the Media Arts Department at New Jersey City University, and teaches advanced post-production at the Department of Transmedia at Syracuse University. His work was recently featured at the Cape May Film Festival and at SPEMA (Society for Photographic Education Mid-Atlantic Region) at the University of Pennsylvania.
Jimmy Santiago was born in Orange, New Jersey in 1984, and grew up in Nutley, NJ. He graduated from Nutley High School in 2002, and entered NJ City University as a Media Arts major. Jimmy´s work in video production has screened as part of the annual Media Arts Department showcase at the Landmark Loew´s Jersey Theater in Jersey City. He plans to graduate in 2007, and aspires to a career in media production.
Rick Torres is a Media Arts major concentrating in screenwriting, directing, and video post-production. He was born in El Salvador in 1983, and has lived in Jersey City for 16 years. His film and video projects, "Apocalyptic Antidote" and "Aftermath" have screened as part of the URBAN IMAGE Showcase at the Jersey City Museum and the Hoboken Historical Museum, and at the Landmark Loew´s Jersey Theater in Jersey City, NJ. With co-director Sonya Davidova, Rick recently shot and edited a documentary short based on a performance piece by the artist Raphael Montanez Ortiz at the Jersey City Museum. Rick is a staff member/co-curator of the URBAN IMAGE collective. He is currently working on his first feature film, "Microcosm."
Yutaka Ueda is a native of Japan who came to NJ City University to study media arts production. He graduated with a B. A. in Media Arts in 2003. Yutaka won many awards for his unique productions during his tenure in the Media Arts Department. His piece, "Heritage" premiered at the 25th Annual Asian Cinevision Film Festival in NYC, and screened at the Asian American Film Festival in Chicago, in 2002. He designed digitally animated credit sequences for numerous video screenings produced by the Media Arts Department of NJ City University, including URBAN IMAGE; the Fort Lee Film Commission; the Womenswork Media Collective; and for Jane Steuerwald´s film "Rocket Experts" which screened at MoMA in 2002. His piece, "Kagome," was nominated for the Best Experimental Short in the Dahlonega International Film Festival in 2003, and was selected by the Downstream Film Festival and the San Diego Asian American Film Festival also in 2003. Yutaka is currently studying for his M. F. A. at City College of NY.
Summer Wosu was born in 1984 in Jersey City, NJ. She attended American University before entering the Media Arts Department at New Jersey City University in 2005, where she is currently a junior. Her work was included in the URBAN IMAGE "Memoir" showcase in 2006 and is presently being considered for inclusion in the Queer Black Cinema Film Festival. Juneyup Yi was born in 1987 in Seoul, South Korea. He graduated from the Media Arts Department, NJ City University in 2001, and was the recipient of the prestigious Celeste Holm Award for Excellence in Production awarded by the Media Arts Department faculty. Juneyup completed his M. A. in Media Studies at The New School for Social Research in 2005. His film "two weeks ago I got a tattoo" premiered at the Asian-American International Film Festival in 2002 and went on to tour with the Black Maria Film and Video Festival, the Asian American Film Showcase in Chicago, and the Cape May Film Festival. His film collaboration with Jane Steuerwald, "I am driving in my car. I am walking up the hill." premiered at the Asian-American International Film Festival in 2004. His work has also screened at Anthology Film Archives, NYC; the Asian Pacific American Film Festival; the Jersey City Museum and Collective Unconscious, NYC. Juneyup recently had a film screened at MoMA, for which he was the Director of Photography. The film entitled, "a.k.a. Nikki S. Lee," directed by Ms. Lee, is an experimental documentary shot on digital video mainly in New York, Seoul, Paris, Venice, Mexico City, Frankfurt, and Santa Fe, which explores and expands the play between truth and fiction. The film screened at MoMA to sold-out performances and travels to the 57th Berlin International Film Festival, in February 2007. Juneyup lives and works in NYC as a photographer and videographer.
