About the Artists
2005

Gary Broderick - was born in Milwaukee, WI, and grew up in Piscataway and Highland Park, NJ.  At 19, he began to attend NJ City University where he studied media arts.  He worked in various capacities in numerous independent film productions and as an Assistant Casting Associate with WSA Entertainment.  He graduated from NJ City University in 2004 after being very active in the University´s Alliance for Peace and Justice, and he was awarded the University´s “Ben Jones Civil Service Award.”  His work has been screened at the NJ Media Arts Film Festival in New Brunswick, NJ, and the Loew´s Jersey Theatre in Jersey City, NJ.  He will be attending Hunter College´s Integrated Media Arts Graduate program in the fall.

Clint Higgins - was born in 1982 in Point Pleasant, NJ.  He is currently a Dean´s List student at NJ City University studying film and video production in the Media Arts Department.  He is interning with Justin Strawhand, President of mutationengine, and recently completed a shoot with Strawhand on location in Paris, France.  His work has been screened at the Jersey City Museum, the Hoboken Historical Museum, and the Loew´s Jersey Theater in Jersey City, NJ.  He is currently working for Birds-I Productions, and plans to graduate from NJCU in December 2005.

Rodel Lescano - is 22 years old, and a senior in the Media Arts Department of NJ City University.  He is a life-long Jersey City resident.  He aspires to becoming involved in larger scale productions in the future in the role of writer/director.  Rodel´s work has been screened at the Jersey City Museum and the Hoboken Historical Museum, and will screen at the Loew´s Jersey Theatre, Jersey City, NJ in May 2005.

Fabian Leon - is a senior in the Media Arts Department of NJ City University, and will be the first person in his family to earn a college degree. He is a life-long resident of Hudson County, currently residing in North Bergen, NJ.  Fabian has studied film and video since attending North Bergen High School.  He originally entered NJ City University as English major, but realized he could better express his creativity through media production.  Fabian´s work will be screened at the Loew´s Jersey Theatre, Jersey City, NJ in May 2005.

Louis Libitz - was born in Jersey City and graduated from the Media Arts Department, NJ City University in 2003.  He is an award-winning video maker currently studying for his Master of Fine Arts Degree in Art Video at Syracuse University, where he received a Graduate Assistantship.  His work has been screened at Anthology Film Archives and the Robert Beck Memorial Cinema in NYC, the Loew´s Jersey Theater and The Jersey City Museum in NJ.  In 2005, his work was screened at the Fine Art School of the Aristotelian University in Thessalonica, Greece and at the York Arts Gallery in York, PA.  He received an Honorable Mention at the 24th Annual Black Maria Film/Video Festival.  Louis also designs and creates DVD´s for other artists/filmmakers, and is highly sought after as a video and audio post-production engineer.  Upon graduation from NJ City University he was awarded the prestigious Dr. Joseph Drew Award for Excellence in Production.  He has taught as an adjunct professor of Video Production in the Media Arts Department of NJ City University and will be teaching an Advanced Post-Production class in the Fall of 2005 in the Department of Art Media Studies/Transmedia at Syracuse University.

Nicole McNeill - was born in 1982 in Bayonne, NJ, and was raised in Jersey City.  She is currently a Media Arts major at NJ City University pursuing a career in filmmaking.  She is a gifted emerging artist, whose work is intuitive and evocative.  She plans to graduate from the Media Arts Department in 2006.

Jameel Mills - was born and raised in Newark, NJ.  He is a 2005 graduate of the Media Arts Department of NJ City University.  Jameel works as an AV technician and video editor at Essex County College.  He has worked on numerous independent productions in the NYC area as a production assistant.  Jameel´s work will be screened in May 2005 at the Loew´s Jersey Theatre, in Jersey City, NJ.

Joseph Ortiz - was born in 1971 in Brownsville, Texas and moved to NY City to attend Fordham University and play basketball.  His involvement with the wrong crowd led him to a large drug charge conspiracy and a three year prison sentence in the State of New Jersey.  After his release, Joseph made the decision to go back to college and choose to attend NJ City University´s Media Arts program where he graduated cum laude in 2004. During his tenure in the department, Joe produced numerous outstanding works, and was awarded the prestigious Dr. Joseph Drew Award for Excellence in Production. His work has been screened at the 1st Annual Hudson County Film Festival in 2003, at the Loew´s Jersey Theater in Jersey City, the Jersey City Museum, and the Hoboken Historical Museum.  Currently Joe is working on a screenplay with Graystone Studios based in NY City.  He earns a living as a freelance camera technician, and worked on 16 episodes of MTV´s show Damage Control.

Eli Quinonez - was born in 1978 in Hoboken, NJ.  He will be graduating from the Media Arts Department, NJ City University in May 2005, and will be returning to college to complete his certification to teach elementary education.  Media has always been his creative and artistic focus, but teaching is his passion.  He looks forward to the opportunity to incorporate media into his teaching.  Eli is a gifted and articulate artist with a promising future in both media production and teaching.  His work will be screened in May at the Loew´s Jersey Theatre in Jersey City, NJ.

Jaime Villacis - was born in Quito, Ecuador, in 1981. The son of a diplomat, he traveled throughout the Americas since he was two years old.  In 2004, he graduated Summa Cum Laude from New Jersey City University with a B.A. in Media Arts.  Though the bulk of his work is in video, he has ventured into web design, interactive media and film.  His video pieces have gained recognition in the New Jersey Young Film and Video Festival, and have screened at the Jersey City Museum, the Hoboken Historical Museum and the Loew´s Jersey Theater in Jersey City, NJ. Upon his graduation from the Media Arts Department he was awarded the prestigious Dr. Joseph Drew Award for Excellence in Production. In October 2004 he returned to Ecuador where he started working as a partner in a new advertising company, Alquimia. He is also working on developing a sitcom in Ecuador and in producing a music video for an Ecuadorian Hip Hop band recognized by Rolling Stone Latin America as one of the best new acts of 2004. His plans were temporarily interrupted when he had a serious bicycle accident that has left him recuperating at home.  His convalescence is still expected to last a couple of months.

Juneyup Yi - has won numerous awards for his work. Self-Portrait screened at the Asian-American International Film Festival, NY in 2001 and The Black Maria Film & Video Festival in 2002.  His documentary short, Two Weeks Ago I Got a Tattoo screened at the Asian-American International Film Festival, NY 2002, Asian-American Film Festival, Chicago 2002 & toured to Italy with The Black Maria Film & Video Festival 2003.  His piece 208 Grand screened in October 2003 at The Robert Beck Memorial Cinema at Collective Unconscious, NYC. His collaborative piece with Jane Steuerwald, I am driving in my car.  I am walking up the hill. screened at the Asian-American International Film Festival, NYC, 2003; Asian-Pacific American Film Festival at the Corcoran Gallery, Washington, D. C., 2003; and the Jersey City Museum, 2003. His work has also been screened at the Loew´s Jersey Theatre in Jersey City, NJ.  In the fall of 2004 he taught Foundations of Media Design in the Media Arts Department of NJ City University. He is currently studying for his Master of Arts degree at New School University in the Media Studies program, and is working as the Director of Photography on a documentary production for the renowned Korean artist, Nikki Lee.
