About the Artists
2004-2005

Charlie Arrigo is a recent graduate of the Media Arts Department residing in Bayonne, NJ.  Through his position as a teacher’s assistant in a children’s day care center he was able to produce his playful piece, At the Playground.

 

Shani Difarnacio began her career as an art major because she wanted to be a digital illustrator in big budget movies such as The Matrix.  She changed her major to Media Arts in 2002 as she became more interested in working with and combining different media such as photography, film, video, digital media and drawing.  Her current work explores the combination and layering of images to express her point of view and emotions.

 

Clint Higgins is  a Dean’s List student at NJ City University studying film and video production in the Media Arts Department.  He is interning with Justin Strawhand, President of mutationengine, and is recently completed a shoot with Strawhand on location in Paris, France.  He would like to thank his professor Ruben Guzman for guidance with this piece and Walter Wanderly whose music is used for the sound track.

 

Rodel Lescano is 22 years old, and a senior in the Media Arts Department of NJ City University.  He is a life-long Jersey City resident.  He aspires to becoming involved in larger scale productions in the future in the role of writer/director.

 

Michelle Lopez recently received her B.A. degree from New Jersey City University where she studied Media Arts.  She is currently teaching a course in video documentary at Hoboken High School and plans to pursue production in television.

 

Nelson Mayo is 23 years old, and a senior in the Media Arts Department of NJ City University.  He is a New Jersey native who aspires to becoming a successful director and editor of film and video productions. Nelson has a unique way of looking at the world in order to bring out the humorous part of life. He strives to make his audience realize that there are better things to worry about than being serious.

 

Maggie Menjivar is a senior in the Media Arts Department of NJ City University where she has studied video production.  She is one of the founding members of URBAN IMAGE and a curator for the Sense of Place showcase.  Her goal is to work as a producer/director for a travel-related cable television channel.

 

Robert Meyer was born in Jersey City and raised in West New York, New Jersey.  A recent graduate of the Media Arts Department of New Jersey City University, he is currently a Media Specialist for the West New York School District.  Rob is a videomaker of great promise who has created moving and highly charged documentary shorts.  Rob’s first film LATE FEE was an official selection at the 2004 Arlene’s Grocery Film Festival.  He currently resides in East Rutherford with his wife Hollie.

 

Carlos Orrego was born in Peru and came to the United States when he was two months old.  He is currently studying video production in the Media Arts Department of NJ City University, where he has been a teaching assistant and video editing tutor for a number of years.  He is one of the founding members of URBAN IMAGE and a curator for the Sense of Place showcase.  He aspires to become a professional camera operator and video editor.

 

Joseph Ortiz was born in Texas and came to Jersey City to enroll as a Media Major at NJ City University.  During his tenure in the department, Joe produced numerous outstanding works.  He graduated in May 2004 and was awarded the prestigious Dr. Joseph Drew Award for Excellence in Production.  His work has been screened at the Loew’s Jersey Theater in Jersey City and most recently at the Hudson County Film and Video Festival.  Joe has been working as a grip for a reality TV show, and is highly accomplished in video production.

 

Janine Orzechowski was born and raised in Jersey City where she still resides, and is a senior in the Media Arts Department at NJ City University.  She is currently an intern with mutationengine headed by Justin Strawhand, a graduate of the Media Arts Department, where she is involved with commercial and documentary video production.  Janine’s piece Swept Away, has screened at the Loew’s Jersey Theater and other venues.

 

Jason Roque was born and raised in New Jersey and is studying for his Bachelor of Arts degree in Media Arts at NJ City University.  He is currently pursuing an internship at Comcast Cable, and he aspires to working in the film industry and in computer animation.

 

Sheryle Samson was born and raised in Jersey City, New Jersey, and is studying video editing in the Media Arts Department of NJ City University.  Her aspiration is to work professionally in video post-production.

 

Jaime Villacis was born in Quito, Ecuador, in 1981. The son of a diplomat, he has traveled throughout the Americas since he was two years old.  In 2004, he graduated Summa Cum Laude from New Jersey City University with a B.A. in Media Arts.  His video pieces have gained recognition in the New Jersey Young Film and Video Festival. Upon his graduation from the Media Arts Department he was awarded the prestigious Dr. Joseph Drew Award for Excellence in Production.  He currently resides in Quito where he is starting a video and design company.  His works have also screened at the Loew’s Jersey Theater in Jersey City, NJ.
