About the Artists

Angelita Ali was born in Guyana on April 28, 1986, and moved to the United States at the age of three. Raised most of her life in Jersey City, Angelita studied media arts at Snyder High School by working hands-on in a network-quality, multi-million dollar video studio as a media arts high tech student. Subsequently, she began working with the award winning cable channel, JC1TV in Jersey City. In addition to continuing her education as a Media Arts major at New Jersey City University, Angelita works behind the scenes in the studio at City Hall in Jersey City filming and editing shows, producing infomercials/commercials, and creating graphic billboards for JC1TV. She can also be seen co-hosting JC1TV News Updates. In 2004 Angelita was honored by Teen People Magazine for being one of the twenty-one teens who will "Change the World," and was featured in a spread in the April issue along with other teens including celebrities Raven Simone and Jesse McCartney. Angelita has been honored by Who's Who Among American College and University Students. In the summer of 2008 she interned with Cablevision helping to produce 30-second commercials for national broadcast. She plans to pursue a career in television and film, and will graduate with a B. A. in Media Arts in May of 2009.

Malaika Burke was born in 1987 in Guyana and came to the US with her family in 1991. She currently resides in East Orange, NJ, and studies illustration and media arts at New Jersey City University. Malaika is an exhibiting artist and has had her work shown in numerous galleries including Gathering of the Tribes. She received an Honorable Mention in the 2008 New Jersey Young Film and Video Makers' Festival, for "Dreaming Dali," and won an award for her animation from the NAACP as part of their national competition, ACT-SO (Academic Cultural Technological & Scientific Olympics). She does volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity and Big Brother/Big Sister, and worked for over a month building houses in New Orleans. She has also interned with Americorps where she was a video editor. Malaika will graduate in Spring 2009 with a B. A. in Media Arts and plans to do graduate work in computer animation.

Raul Garcia was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on September 29, 1979, and graduated from the Media Arts Department of New Jersey City University in 2004. Raul is an accomplished writer and poet and works as a writing tutor for the Opportunity Scholarship Program at New Jersey City University. His work has been screened at the annual Media Arts Department Showcase at the Landmark Loew's Jersey Theater in Jersey City, NJ; at the Hoboken Historical Museum; and at the Jersey City Museum. He studied in the Media Studies program at New School University, and has an active practice in experimental film/video production.

Tatiana Gonzalez was born in the Bronx, NY, in 1985, and currently resides with her family in Bayonne, NJ. Tatiana is highly accomplished in media production. She is always in demand as a video editing tutor in the Media Arts Department where she has served for a number of years as a technical staff member and as an undergraduate teaching assistant. Her work has been screened at the Landmark Loew's Jersey Theater in Jersey City, and she won an Honorable Mention for her work in 2008 at the New Jersey Young Film and Videomaker's Festival. She plans to graduate with a B. A. in Media Arts in 2009 and will focus on a career as a film and video editor.

Louis Libitz was born in Jersey City, NJ and now resides in Bayonne, NJ. He is an award-winning videomaker and received the prestigious Shaffer Award from the graduate faculty of Syracuse University, College of Visual and Performing Arts. He graduated with his M. F. A. from Syracuse University in May 2007. His work has been screened at Anthology Film Archives and the Robert Beck Memorial Cinema in NYC; the Landmark Loew's Jersey Theater and The Jersey City Museum in Jersey City, NJ; at the Hoboken Historical Museum in Hoboken, NJ; at the Fine Art School of the Aristotelian University in Thessaloniki, Greece; at the 7th Biennial of Video and New Media of Santiago, Contemporary Museum of Art, Santiago, Chile; and at the York Arts Gallery in York, PA. He received the Third Prize Experimental at the 35th Athens International Film & Video Festival, in Athens, Ohio. Louis designs and creates DVD's for other artists/filmmakers, and is highly sought after as a video and audio post-production engineer. Upon graduation from NJ City University in 2003, he was awarded the prestigious Dr. Joseph Drew Award for Excellence in Media Production. He is an adjunct professor of media production in the Media Arts Department at NJ City University, and taught advanced post-production at the Department of Transmedia at Syracuse University. His work has also been featured at the Cape May Film Festival; SPEMA (Society for Photographic Education Mid-Atlantic Region) at the University of Pennsylvania; the Red Saw Gallery in Newark, NJ; and at the Athens Film and Video Festival. He is the Assistant Director/Associate Program Coordinator of the Black Maria Film and Video Festival.

Joey Mosca was born in Bayonne, NJ in 1986, and has lived in Jersey City all his life. He wanted to make movies since he was a kid and declared his major in Media Arts when he entered New Jersey City University. Over the years he has produced an impressive and varied body of work which garnered him the prestigious Dr. Joseph Drew Award for Excellence in Media Production upon his graduation from the Media Arts Department in 2008. His work has been screened at the Landmark Loew's Jersey Theater in Jersey City, and he received an Honorable Mention in the 2008 New Jersey Young Film and Video Makers' Festival. Joey is a skilled director, editor, and technician, and is highly sought after for his expertise in location and post-production sound, film and video production.

Tomas Peralta was born in Bayonne, NJ in 1981 and now resides in Jersey City, NJ. He attended New Jersey City University studying media arts with a concentration in filmmaking. As part of his undergraduate program, Tomas studied abroad in London, England and landed an internship at Edgeworx Inc, a prestigious production company in London's Soho Square. Upon completion of his degree in Media Arts in the spring of 2008, he was hired as the cinematographer for an independent feature film titled, "A Dangerous Place." Tomas received an Honorable Mention in the 2008 New Jersey Young Film and Video Makers' Festival, for "Dreaming Dali." He is currently employed as the assistant video editor on the up and coming Food Network show, "Chopped."

Christian Romero was born in 1984 and was raised in Ecuador, South America. He came to the US in 1999 and now resides in West New York. He attends New Jersey City University and is majoring in Media Arts. He has worked for the prestigious production company Edgeworx Inc., and for the award-winning college newspaper of New Jersey City University, The Gothic Times. Christian's sources of inspiration for his work are the values and traditions of his family, making his work highly personal. He is an accomplished graphic artist and designed the poster art for the 2008 Urban Image Showcase. Christian plans to graduate from New Jersey City University in 2009.

Anthony Rudick was born in Westwood, New Jersey, and has been living in Closter, New Jersey for 21 years. He has an impressive background and expertise having worked in theater, film production, and video editing. Anthony is currently employed as an editor at MSNBC in Manhattan. He has also participated in the production of several independent films, TV shows, and one major motion picture staring Tim Allen, which will be released in 2009. Anthony also worked on Season Eight of Law and Order, "Criminal Intent." In the fall of 2008 he was a crew member on the major motion picture "An Invisible Sign of My Own" starring Jessica Alba and J.K. Simmons. Anthony is an ambitious and highly talented producer/director/editor. He plans to graduate from the Media Arts Department in December of 2008 with a B. A. in Media Arts.

Sarven Tar was born in Istanbul, Turkey in 1985 and is of Armenian descent. He came with his parents to the United States when he was two years old and has lived in New Jersey ever since. He now lives in Weehawken, New Jersey. Sarven is a Media Arts major at New Jersey City University. He has a strong passion and interest in film and plans to concentrate on writing and directing. He has written a number of short screenplays and is currently working on his first feature-length script. Sarven will graduate with a B. A. in Media Arts in December of 2008.
